USB to DB9 converter

The manufacturer of my device was very circumspect about the pin out of the console port. I figured, sincemany vendors these days have agreed on a de-facto standard, I should give this cable a try. Unfortunatelyas it turns out, the device that I have is not one of those that follows this convention.
A little more sleuthing did eventually reveal the pin out of the RJ45 socket for my device. To make thingswork, I cut of the modular connector from the cable, carefully stripped the insulation, rearranged the wiresas needed, and then terminated the cable by crimping on a new RJ45 plug. Worked perfectly on the firsttry and looks just as if it came from the factory.
While l wished that every manufacturer used the same pin out for their console ports, a 10 minute projectcan make this cable work even with unusual proprietary pin outs. And the result is so much better thancobbled together strings of assorted adapters. Love how clean and organized everything looks.
Also very happy with how the use of standard components eliminates the need of any drivers or softwareconfigurations. Just plug it in and it works.
